Here at gen ñ we’re bonafide, dyed in the wool (whatever that means! Imaginate!) Fania Records fanatics. But what about Vaya Records?!? We know Celia and Johnny, where they look so magnificent with their dashikis on which they shot in Greenwich Village (“en casa de unos Africanos en el Village”, as Celia told me in an interview), was on Fania and we know she was a pillar of Johnny’s Fania sound, but why then was Tremendo Cache, also featuring the pair, released on Vaya Records? Was it a sub label?
We certainly saw a lot of Fania acts on this label.
But what was it?
