Mexican actor and filmmaker Nathalia Acevedo is presenting her feature-directing debut, Salón de Belleza, at the Venice Film Festival.

The film follows a hairstylist who transforms his salon into a refuge for people affected by a mysterious illness spreading through an unnamed city. It is receiving its world premiere in Giornate degli Autori, an independent section associated with the festival.

Acevedo’s participation places Mexican filmmaking on one of international cinema’s most visible stages.
