Kid Cudi is turning his admiration for Jean-Michel Basquiat into a film project. According to Remezcla, the Mexican-American performer announced October 21 that he plans to portray the artist in Jean, a project he is writing and directing.

Basquiat’s Puerto Rican and Haitian heritage is part of a legacy that continues to resonate across art, music and popular culture. Cudi described the project as a tribute to the painter, New York City and the 1980s.

The announcement adds another creative role to a career that has already crossed music and acting. Remezcla reports that filming is planned for 2027.

For Gen Ñ, the project is worth following as a connection between two artists whose work reaches across cultural boundaries. Casting, production and release plans should be followed through future announcements rather than treated as completed milestones.
