Dominican music is mourning the loss of Alex Bueno, the beloved merengue and bachata singer known as “El Mayimbito” and “El Ruiseñor de la Sierra.” Bueno died on June 18, 2026, at age 62 after battling brain cancer.

With classics like “Colegiala,” “Querida,” “Esa Pared,” “Busca un Confidente,” and “Que Vuelva,” Bueno helped shape the sound of Dominican music for generations.
